There are many variations on the single-page folded book. The "maze book" structure taught in this workshop is intriguing because it appears to be a standard codex, but when unfolded, it is revealed to be a single page with a center cut.

The content can be images, text, or a mixture of the two. Learn how to use a book dummy to arrive at the correct imposition of type and/or images. Work collaboratively to design a book while you practice typesetting and printing on the Vandercook proof press.

The day will finish with folding the books and an exchange with fellow students. Everyone takes home a small edition of their book.

>> Prerequisite: Some letterpress experience, such as Introduction to Letterpress or Cylinder Core 1 <<

Materials to Bring: Optional: text of up to 20 words to print inside your book.

Date & Time: Saturday, June 22, 2024 :: 9:30am-5:30pm

NOTE: Please read over the SFCB Registration Policies before signing up for a class. Registration will close approximately three days prior to the start date of the workshop to allow the instructor time to prep materials for class. We recommend you not wait to register, as workshops that don't meet our minimum enrollment will be canceled, sometimes as much as a week in advance.

Past Student Reviews:

"Lisa is amazingly skilled and talented, but is also quite clear and simple in introducing concepts, techniques and the mechanics or printing- it is really exciting to work with her."

“Lisa was great at giving us both practical knowledge of the Vandercook press and allowing us to have flexibility and time to figure things out. I appreciated her instruction and the structure of the class.”

“Lisa was so awesome. She explained processes with clarity and elegance, which can be hard to with the Vandercook (because the skill set is so technical). I would love to study more with Lisa.”
