Exhibitions

Since its inception in 1996, San Francisco Center for the Book has mounted well over one hundred exhibitions showcasing all aspects of artists' books.

SFCB's long-standing practice of highlighting artist book innovators, wide-ranging concepts within the art book community, and creative collaborations has provided gallery-goers with current insight into the world of artists' books. Programs related to each exhibition encourage community dialogue, education, and social opportunity.

The Gallery

The exhibition space at SFCB is adjacent to the print, bindery, and art studios. Our open gallery space creates a perfect environment in which visitors can view artists' books, prints, sculptural bookworks, and paper-related artworks. Our exhibition space is open to the public Wednesday through Sunday from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM. Admission is free.

Exhibition Proposals

Curators and individuals interested in proposing an exhibition must fill out SFCB's Exhibition Proposal Form. Proposals are reviewed by SFCB's Exhibition Committee approximately three times per year. A core goal of our exhibition program is to provide opportunities to emerging and mid-career curators; individuals from diverse backgrounds working in the fields/mediums of artists' books, printmaking, letterpress, papermaking, and related arts are strongly encouraged to submit proposals. Proposals for group exhibitions will be given priority.
