Learn to animate and add interactivity to your electronic books with crafted switches, sensors, and controllers. In this workshop we will expand the skills and knowledge learned in E-luminated Books Part 1. We will go beyond “on or off” with sensors that can respond to subtle changes in light, pressure, and more. Finally, we will connect tiny, inexpensive computer chips to our paper circuits for even more control over light patterns and other interactive behaviors

Optionally, bring a Windows or Mac laptop and we will help you get set up to program your own paper circuits from home.

The level 1 class (E-luminated Tunnel Books) is a prerequisite for this class. Equivalent paper circuit experience can be substituted with approval of the instructors (please email).

Student Competencies/ Skills Gained After Completing Course:

By the end of the course students will have learned to:

• make custom paper switches

• use sensors to make circuits responsive

• connect microcontrollers to paper circuits to choreograph sequences and patterns

Materials to bring: All materials will be provided, but students are encouraged to bring any decorative papers they would like to augment or decorate their tunnel book. Textured and translucent papers like vellum and tissue paper, or colored cellophanes and gels can create particularly beautiful effects with light.

Workshop + Materials Fee: $220
