This is a two session online workshop.

Find out how to create a unique artist’s book using textiles, stitching, inks and collage.

In session one we start by adhering a patchwork of fabrics and paper ephemera to freezer paper. In the second session the resulting strip of material is peeled off the freezer paper and is ready to be folded into an accordion. This can then be embellished with embroidery, machine sewing, stamping and ink painting. Simple sewing and embroidery techniques will be demonstrated.

The final fold out book will be attached to a textile cover that can also be decorated with these mixed media techniques.

Materials to Bring:

  • 2 Pieces of freezer paper or plastic, one 27 x 9” another 16 x 10”, Reynolds brand of
freezer paper works well. Parchment paper won't work, as it is not water resistant.
  • Light-weight fabric scraps and paper ephemera, enough to create an overlapping patchwork approx 25 x 5”. Other materials like lace, ribbon, old book pages, doilies, etc. also work well.
  • Embroidery floss and needle
