This is a two session online workshop.


Students will learn the best fabrics for marbling, along with tips and tricks on how to marble your own fabric with a special emphasis on creating your own bookcloth. 

The workshop fee includes a kit containing 15 sheets of primed fabric, carrageenan, and alum. Students will need to provide other materials, see below.

Please note, students should already have some marbling experience. Those who have taken Pietro's Advanced Paper Marbling online workshop will have many of the tools, such as a tray, rakes, and paints. Other students will need to source these items on their own; please contact us at workshops@sfcb.org if you wish to purchase rakes from Pietro.

Materials to Bring: 

  • Materials kit from instructor

AND

  • A large tray, like this.
  • Rakes and combs
  • At least four different paint colors of your choosing from ProChemical & Dye
  • Apron
  • Protected work surface and floor (i.e. use a dropcloth)
  • Hanging clothesline with pins or drying rack

Location: Online over Zoom.

SFCB online workshops are recorded; all registered students will have access to the videos for a month after the final class meeting.

About the Instructor | Pietro Accardi

Pietro Accardi owned a bookbindery in Turin (Italy) for 12 years. He worked for Turin's main public library, Municipal Archives, and University libraries restoring and binding books and he ran his own paper marbling and decorative box making business. Now he lives in Gardnerville restoring books for Libraries, teaching and having fun marbling paper and fabric together with many cats.
