Fraktur, a baroque version of blackletter, conjures up images of the court of Maximilian I and tattoo artwork with its contrast of subtle curves and straight lines. Learn the script of Bocskay, Neudörffer and more modern calligraphers such as Rudolf Koch. You will fall under the charm of its long vertical strokes and hypnotic texture.

Students will learn the history of Fraktur calligraphy and will learn how to write the letterforms of of Fraktur, both lowercase and uppercase, using a dip pen.

All levels of lettering experience are welcome. A familiarity with a broad-edge pen script is helpful, but not required.

Past Student Reviews:

“I learned new things - in particular, I gained a lot of knowledge about the practical uses of the pen/nib in the articulation of the letterforms. I think Raoul is good at explaining how he is achieving the marks, and his level of experience is very clear.”

“Raoul is both precise and patient. His explanations during class were excellent. His feedback on our homework was super helpful and it helps me understand what to work on in my daily practice.”
