This is a two session online workshop.

Formerly an in-person workshop, the Digital Design for Letterpress class has moved online.

This course is intended for designers, illustrators, or printers who would like to improve their design and pre-press skills for letterpress. We will explore foundational print design concepts and how they translate to the letterpress process.

The following technical topics will be reviewed: editing raster and vector images in Photoshop and Illustrator; scanning photographic images and calligraphy and converting them into vector files; printing multiple colors, including overprinting; and basic principles of digital typography and the composition of images and text together in InDesign.

A useful pre-flight guide for film and photopolymer plate production will be provided for students.

The workshop is split into two online sessions, with some homework given for the intervening week.

Students may then apply their new skills by preparing digital art files for film and plate production for the Polymer Core 2 :: Photopolymer Platemaking class offered in person only at SFCB.
