Also known as ‘shepherd’s purse' or ‘explosion page’ and often used commercially for tourist maps, the Turkish map fold is a simple and impactful feature to add to a binding. The surface of this fold pops out dramatically beyond the pages that contain it. Students in this class will learn to fold the ‘purse’ and ways to connect their folded pages to turn them into books. There will also be an exploration of different options for covering their pages and everyone will leave finished map folded book works.
Materials to Bring: Decorative paper, notebook.
Optional and available at SFCB for student use during workshop: bone folder, pencil, utility knife, glue stick.

Past Student Reviews:
“Bettina was incredibly informative and wonderful! We had such a blast and I can't wait to incorporate these techniques into my art (I'm a cartographer so this class was very fitting).”
“I loved coming here! I wish it wasn't so pricey, as I can only justify occasional classes. I'd love to do a shorter class that's cheaper and only goes over something small.”
“Bettina was very pleasant and instructed easy with a most pleasant manner. Thoroughly enjoyed the class.”
“I had an excellent experience. The workshop was fun, interesting, and very informative. As a result, I know that I will continue in the folding of papers and making of covers that I learned. It was a fun and interesting workshop. Wish we had more time to do MORE.”
