  • Workshop End: August 20th, 2016 5:00 PM
  • Sessions: 1

Spend a day learning an historically inspired binding technique, the cross-structure binding, in this workshop for novice to advanced bookbinders.

A surprising feature of this binding is the manner in which the book is constructed – slotted covers encourage a range of design possibilities. Students will spend the class creating and binding two complete books; simple mark-making techniques will be used to decorate cover paper for each book. Previous bookbinding experience is not necessary, all skill levels are welcome.

Materials to Bring: Bone folder; pencil; right angle triangle (small or medium size is o.k.); inexpensive small, flat bristle brush for gluing; a pair of full size, sharp scissors; bookbinder’s awl, any additional papers/ephemera that might be used as decoration for book covers (photos/collage elements/etc.); X-acto knife; materials or tools for mark-making such as rubber stamps, watercolor pencils, colored inks, ink pads, etc.

Workshop + Materials Fee: $175.00
