In this workshop, students will learn how to use typography 'graphically' in collage. Cubists, Dadaists, and Surrealists all expanded the way we look at letters. Students will use type as image and explore shape and forms of text by working in collage using a wide variety of papers, newspapers, magazines, and assorted ephemera that the instructor will provide. Students will leave class with three collages. Great for beginners interested in typography as well as artists who would like to incorporate text or letterforms into their work.
Materials to bring: Most materials are available at SFCB. However you may like to bring your own X-acto knife, scissors, samples of text from printed material (magazines, books, pamphlets, posters, signs, etc), letraset or small 3-D type (metal type), project board or heavy stock board to collage onto.
Location: 375 Rhode Island St, San Francisco, CA 94103
Note: Please review our Registration Policies before signing up for a class
