In this 1 day course students will learn basic methods for tooling in gold leaf, completing designs on maquette boards. Students will also learn various other methods for tooling and when and in what situation to use these differing techniques. 


Materials to bring: Book of gold leaf - teacher uses 22kt french pale, but bring whatever you want to use

About the Instructor | Gavin Dovey

Gavin Dovey started bookbinding in 1998, completing a course and receiving a qualification in Design Bookbinding at the London College of Printing. In 2005, Paper Dragon Books opened the doors to its first bindery on 26th street, in the Chelsea area of Manhattan, New York. In 2008 the bindery was moved to Brooklyn, and recently relocated in the summer of 2014 to Oakland, California.

Today Gavin works in his third bindery in the Cotton Mill Studios, in one of the bay area's most historical and exciting arts and crafts communities, teaching and producing fine, design and historical bindings, for various national and international institutions, rare book dealers, private collectors and private clients, and international artists.
