The accordion book structure presents endless opportunities for artists of all mediums: photography, collage, printmaking, or illustration (to name a few.) However, one of the challenges of this book structure is creating a perfectly folded book with straight angles and clean lines. Starting with the basics, students are introduced to “no-fail” folding methods, and then move forward into a handful of accordion folding variations. By the end of class, students have created both softcover and hardcover versions of accordion books, in addition to brainstorming ideas for future projects.
