This is a four session online workshop.

Get ready to dive deep into the nuances of paper marbling. You've taken the introductory classes and understand the mechanics; it's time to focus on color and develop your designs.

Pietro will lead students on an exploration of the color wheel, two colors at a time, giving ideas on how to combine them in an harmonious way using classic and less common patterns. Over-marbling will be covered as well, with lots of time for troubleshooting and answering your questions.

This workshop is intended for students with marbling experience. Students who have taken Pietro's online Advanced Marbling workshop will have all the necessary materials, trays and rakes.

Students who have taken the introductory online Paper Marbling class, or Pietro's in person class, may purchase a kit directly from Pietro for $87 plus shipping in addition to the workshop fee. The optional kit from Pietro contains seven rakes for different patterns, alum and carrageenan.

Students will also need to supply their own paper, a tray, and paints. Please contact us with materials questions before registering.

>> Prerequisite: Paper Marbling online workshop or in-person Introduction to Western Paper Marbling <<

About the Instructor | Pietro Accardi (he/him)

Pietro is native to the northwestern Italian city of Turin where his father Gaetano founded and operated Tipografia Accardi; it was a state of the art printing press in 1950s Italy. His youth spent in the press lead him to paper marbling, restoration and bookbinding. Pietro moved on from his father’s press to establish La Legatoria del Sole, an artisanal and production-oriented bookbindery in Turin, serving Turin’s Municipal Archives, public and university libraries. After coming to the U.S. he started teaching at San Francisco Center for the Book. Together with his wife Vanessa he has founded Accardi Book Arts, a book arts studio and bindery in Gardnerville to preserve the tradition of handmade books and boxes.

Past Student Reviews:

“I'm delighted to learn how to do marbling at home; adjusted for size. And Pietro is always a delight!”

“Pietro reminds us that art is a process and there is great fun in experimenting.  He teaches us the “rules” and then we can do what we want.”

“We consider ourselves fortunate indeed to have had the opportunity to learn paper marbling from Pietro. He is knowledgeable, enthusiastic, organized and a natural teacher.”
