The possiblities for Chinese sewing boxes are seemingly endless. Each section inside this book-like structure can reveal secret books, hidden messages, collected ephemera, sewing supplies, or any other small object you can think of. Students will learn all about the layout of this unique and adaptable structure as they construct their own under the instructor's guidance. The class will also cover the potential these boxes have for storing various precious items and odds-and-ends.
Materials to Bring: Optional and available at SFCB for student use during workshop: scissors, bone folder, utility knife, cutting mat, pencil, glue stick.

CJ Grossman, MFA California College of Arts and Crafts, teaches mixed media and book-arts classes to adults and children. She exhibits her books and mixed media works nationally. She is former editor of Kids Making Books.
