SFCB's Big Shindig with special guest SF Poet Laureate Tongo Eisen-Martin

We're celebrating 25 years in the books at our Big Shindig and you're invited! Join us in person at San Francisco Center for the Book as we celebrate print culture, our book arts community, and twenty-five years of community building.

We are thrilled to host the 2021 San Francisco Poet Laureate Tongo Eisen-Martin as our special guest for the evening. As part of the event festivities, Tongo will present selections of his poetry; live printing of Tongo's poem I Make Promises Before I Dream will take place throughout the evening. Appetizers from our friends at La Mediterranee and wine by the Kent Rasmussen Winery in Napa, CA. are included with ticket purchase.


About Tongo Eisen-Martin:
Originally from San Francisco, Tongo Eisen-Martin is a poet, movement worker, and educator. His latest curriculum on extrajudicial killing of Black people, We Charge Genocide Again, has been used as an educational and organizing tool throughout the country. His book titled, “Someone’s Dead Already” was nominated for a California Book Award. His book, “Heaven Is All Goodbyes” was published by the City Lights Pocket Poets series, was shortlisted for the Griffins Poetry Prize and won a California Book Award and an American Book Award. His latest book “Blood On The Fog” is also being released in the City Lights Pocket Poets. In 2020, he co-founded Black Freighter Press. He is San Francisco’s eighth poet laureate.
