About the exhibition :: Showcasing 50 books, the OPEN • SET exhibition recognized excellence in craftsmanship and concept interpretation in fine binding. OPEN • SET traveled across the United States in 2017; as a competition with an exhibition component, OPEN • SET brought together bibliophiles and the general public, in order to celebrate finely crafted volumes.

The OPEN • SET competition offered prizes and acknowledgement in two categories: participants chose either to bind the SET book (option 1) or a book of their choice in the OPEN category (option 2). Entries were limited to one book per category. Binders from all levels and cultures were invited to participate, as the competition was not limited to citizens of the United States nor to students or affiliates of the American Academy of Bookbinding. Jurors for the competition were master bookbinders Eleanore Ramsey, David Esslemont, and Cathy Adelman.
