Story, Illustrations, and Book design by Jennifer Hennesy.
This Small Plates book offers a political perspective of unity and resilience of spirit. The book draws relationships between ancient metaphors for cultural connection (nets / labyrinths), traditional book design and experimental typography. This project was inspired by Howard Zinn's Artists in Times of War, and the work of bay area artists Allison Smith & Susan O'Malley.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Jennifer Hennesy’s work is an exploration of relationships and movement. Her pieces capitalize on the fact that line is the foundation of symbols, language, and visual expression. As both a graphic designer and visual artist, Jennifer brings an energy, curiosity and rigor to her work.
In 2011, Hennesy graduated from California College of the Arts and has since worked with: Stanford University, The California Academy of Sciences, Google, Twitter, Oracle, SFMOMA, California College of the Arts, Southern Exposure, Alter Space Gallery, Frog Design, the San Francisco Center for the Book, The Town Kitchen, Allison Smith and many more independent artists and musicians.
Her influences include: abstract expressionist painting, pop art, complexity science, pragmatic Dutch design systems, graffiti lettering, traditional New Orleans face painting, and the history of written language.
Jennifer lives and works in Oakland, CA.
