Mixing color is a joyful process, but without a strong foundation, it can be frustrating. If you have forgotten, never knew, or just love the language of color, come explore how to mix the colors you seek within the pages of an accordion-folding book. Step-by-step exercises will demystify color mixing as you build a reference source filled with in-depth paint mixing strategies and a record of the colors you are drawn to. We'll use watercolors, both systematically and intuitively, to create studies inspired by spring that apply to all wet media, including inks, watercolor, acrylic and oil paints. You’ll end with a beautiful accordion book of colors, inspired to use this powerful knowledge in your future projects. This workshop is perfect for all levels.

Materials to bring: Tube watercolors in these colors: permanent or quinacridone rose, cadmium red, ultramarine blue, phthalo blue, lemon yellow or hansa yellow pale, cadmium yellow medium or deep, sap green, oxide of chromium green, burnt sienna, and quinacridone gold. If it is hard to find or afford all these colors, just do your best. The instructor will have extra paint to share. Fine or extra fine black felt tip pen (Pigma micron in size .01 or .005 are good), small tube of white gouache (Winsor & Newton permanent white is best), paint mixing palette with ample mixing space, metal ruler at least 12 inches long, no.2 or HB pencil, pencil sharpener, kneaded eraser, #8, #4 and #2 round watercolor brushes, script, rigger or liner brush, one large flat brush, at least 2 inches wide.
