Join SFCB in celebrating the hard work and creativity of 2024's Small Plates artists Thad Higa, Kate Laster, and Amber Wolf!

Annually, SFCB invites three Bay Area artists to produce a limited edition artist book for the Small Plates imprint program. Since the program's inception in 2008, local artists have produced 51 different editions, all of which represent hard work, immense creativity, and unique vision in the realm of artists’ books. As part of the Small Plates program, SFCB provides studio access, technical support, and a stipend to each artist to facilitate the making of their book edition.

This program is supported by a generous donation from the Feigenbaum Nii Foundation.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

Thad Higa is a Korean-Okinawan American language worker. He works with artists' books, concrete poetry, printmaking, collage, typography, graphic design and living rooms. He investigates the intersections of language, technology, capitalism, white supremacy, and their roles in controlling perceptions of reality, value and legibility.

Kate Laster is an artist, educator and critical historian from Alaska and now based in Oakland. Working either monumentally or intimately small, Laster makes generative projects connected to the weight of the past, human migration and the effervescent exhaustion of everyday love. Her papercut practice is reflected in one of a kind books and agitprop multiples using non-linear storytelling to acknowledge unseen yet deeply felt emotional labor. Laster was a studio assistant at Hospitality House’s Community Arts Program and currently works at NIAD as a studio facilitator.

Amber Wolf is a postal artist living in Portland Oregon. Her motivation is to spark delight in her recipients using collage, found ephemera, and small book structures.
