Exhibition organizer Lang Ingalls will be in SFCB’s gallery to discuss the exhibition OPEN / SET 2025, discuss the tradition of fine bookbinding, and answer questions about the work on display. This is a wonderful opportunity to experience fine design bookbinding by both experienced and up-and-coming practitioners.

San Francisco Center for the Book is proud to highlight the OPEN / SET exhibition as part of SF Art Week. Onsite public programming for the exhibition will take place throughout SF Art Week at SFCB.


PRESENTER BIO:

Lang Ingalls studied bookbinding under Edwin Heim at the Centro del Bel Libro (Ascona, Switzerland) and Tini Miura and Monique Lallier at the American Academy of Bookbinding.  Her work can be found in private collections and public institutions across the United States. Ingalls has exhibited widely, including the exhibitions Drop Dead Gorgeous: Fine Bindings of La Prose du Transsibérien Re-creation and Art of the Book 2018.


ABOUT THE EXHIBITION: 

Sponsored by the American Academy of Bookbinding (Telluride, CO), OPEN/SET is a prestigious triennial exhibition celebrating the art of finely crafted design bookbindings. The exhibition features an impressive range of works from both emerging bookbinders and seasoned professionals. Gallery visitors will encounter traditional techniques such as onlay, inlay, gold tooling, titling, and edge treatment, alongside innovative contemporary interpretations of bookbinding methods and structures.
