In tandem with the exhibition “Mourning and Melancholy”, SFCB will host a panel discussion at this year’s SF Art Book Fair featuring curator Maymanah Farhat and artist Andrea Shaker (Minneapolis, MN). Farhat’s extensive expertise in the world of contemporary Arab-American art and printmaking provides context for understanding how bookworks by Arab artists engage with historical trauma, cultural memory, and the ongoing struggle for representation. Exhibiting artist Andrea Shaker shares additional perspective to the conversation, discussing her insight and motivation for creating works of reclamation and resistance. Moderated by Jennie Hinchcliff, Director of Exhibitions, SFCB.
