April is National Letter Writing Month and to celebrate San Francisco Center for the Book is participating in the Write On Campaign!

In 2014, Egg Press and Hello! Lucky began the Write On Campaign in order to connect with friends and loved ones. The project has grown over the years and evolved into a global movement. Participating venues organize events, activities, and demonstrations throughout the month of April to highlight letter writing, get creative, and skill share with others.

If you love putting pen to paper, searching out unusual postage stamps, or making mail art goodies for friends, you’ll want to stop by SFCB’s Write On event for the following activities:

Entertaining envelope folding

Did you know that you can fold a single sheet of paper into an envelope that can be mailed? Easy to create and fun to send, folded envelopes can be made using magazine or calendar pages, scraps of wrapping paper, or perhaps a section from yesterday’s newspaper! Instructional handouts will be available for attendees to make and take their own folded envelopes.

Show ‘n Tell: “on the go” letter writing/mail art kits

Mail art and letter writing on the go: do you have favorite tools? Perhaps a fountain pen, rubber stamp, or particular paper you keep on hand for your travels? How do you transport art supplies and correspondence basics?

Bring your "on the go" letter writing/mail art kits: stationery, pens (fountain and otherwise!), rubber stamps...anything you can’t be without when you’re away from your writing desk! This is a good way for attendees to info-share tools/supplies/techniques.

Artistamp keepsake

Perforated using SFCB’s Rossbach Perforator, this artistamp keepsake designed by Red Letter Day will be available to attendees of SFCB’s Write On event. (limited to supply on hand.)

And: attendees are encouraged to write letters! And make mail art! SFCB will have sheets of specially printed letterpress stationery on hand for Write On attendees to use. Be sure to bring your address book, postage, and favorite art-making tools; we’ll supply the rest!
