Learn how to transfer laser prints onto various surfaces such as canvas, paper, and wood.

The instructor will demonstrate how to prepare laser prints using matte medium, and how to layer surfaces with acrylic paint onto prepared surfaces. Emphasis will be placed on continuous experimentation and combination of techniques.

Students will leave with the ability to continue working with these processes, which they can incorporate in future art projects outside of class.

NOTE: Images printed by inkjet will not work for this process. If you are uncertain about your printer, we recommend you make a few Xerox copies at a local copy shop or shipper (UPS, FedEx/Kinko’s)

>> Prerequisite: None <<

Materials to Bring:

  • Image transfer paper ephemera: small images (around 5 x 7” or smaller) printed through a laser printer or copied from a Xerox machine on regular copy paper, magazines (magazine transfer is unpredictable, bring a few different ones to experiment with)
  • Matte medium, 4 oz.
  • Acrylic brushes : rounds and flats (usually available in a set)
  • Palette knife

Optional:

  • SFCB has basic colors of acrylic paint for student use; feel free to bring your own for a wider range of colors - any brand or consistency
