This is a two session online workshop, June 5 & 12 10-12pm Pacific time.

Spend a few hours in good company learning how to paint basic shapes as backgrounds and add layers with printing techniques to create one-of-a-kind art pieces. You will also learn the basics of block printing such as how to transfer imagery to lino and to carve out your own rubber stamps. 

This class is designed to be fun and low stress, and to not break the bank with materials costs. If you have alternative materials you’d rather use, bring them!

Open to all experience levels and age 16+.


Materials to Bring: 

  • Pacon Cardstock, your choice of color(s) 
  • Acrylic Paint in many colors – use what you have or what you can get
  • A couple of Posca or Paint Markers in any color you like
  • Paint brushes – one large and one small – whatever shape you want

For carving:

  • Soft Kut or Speedy Carve block material
  • Carving Tools – get what you like: Speedball, Flex Cut, Power Grip, Pfeil… you will need a a large V gouge & U gouge, a small V gouge & U gouge, and a utility knife (or Xacto knife) (this one is pretty standard)

General Tools:

  • Cutting Mat
  • Bonefolder
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Chisel Tip Marker
  • Scrap paper
  • Wipes or wet paper towels
  • Hair dryer or Ranger Heat Tool

About the Instructor | Sarah Matthews

Sarah Matthews is a printmaker and book artist. Her work has been exhibited in the US and is a part of the permanent collections of Yale’s Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library, George Washington University’s Gelman Library, University of Puget Sound, and Samford University.
