In this class we will look at the tools for pochoir and discuss how it has been used. The instructor will show samples of works including some books.
We will also discuss how different pigments work, look at different papers, and talk about what material to use for stencils.
Students will then cut their own stencils and try the technique to get an idea for the medium and to have a chance to address any challenges with the instructor.

Materials to Bring:

Tools:
-Cutting mat
-X-acto knife
-Clean flat brush to apply pigment onto paper – one brush per color
-‘PanPastel Sofft art sponges’ – or disposable makeup sponges from Walgreens/CVS

Paper:
-Regular copy paper, BFK paper, various other printmaking paper, sketching paper, Strathmore toned mixed media paper, paper/cardstock that you have at hand – small pieces are fine, the size of your stencil determines the size of the paper.

Materials for your stencil – a sheet of clear acetate is the easiest to use.
-Acetate/mylar/duralar – for example: Grafix Dura-lar 9x12 pad .005”
and/or:
-Cardstock, old green hanging folder, stencil board or oil board, Tyvek paper (you can use a postal priority mail envelope).

Pigment:
PanPastel colors’ – these are very soft pastel colors. If you want to try them buy just your favorite color and decide how you like them before you get the whole palette.
and/or:
Stamp pads : ‘craft smart’,  ‘distress’,  ‘archival ink’,  ‘color box’, ’versafine’ – whatever stamp pad you have will just work fine, there is no need to buy expensive stamp pads!

Workshop Fee: $45

Location: Online over Zoom
