This is a single-session online workshop.

Just in time for Halloween, students will design compositions and learn paper-cutting skills to make paper multi-dimensional and wearable with basic pop-up and paper-sculpture techniques. Adaptation to other materials such as glass or metal will be discussed. Tips, tricks and resources will be provided in this intense workshop of serious fun.
This is a fast-paced workshop with many technique demonstrations. Students will finish the workshop with an arsenal of skills they can use to create their own paper wearables.
All experience levels are welcome, but students should be aware that class will move quickly.

Community Workshops are limited to 30 students with a low class fee to foster accessibility.

Materials to Bring: 

- Cutting mat
- Utility knife and blades (like x-acto with #11 blades)
- Scissors
- Thread and needles
- Glue
- Tape
- Stapler
- Safety pins
-Tyvek is recommended for wearables due to strength/flexibilty - it is available for sale in sheets, and also can be recycled from used USPS/UPS/FedEx shipping envelopes
- Otherwise, any paper you have will work for these exercises: photocopy paper, origami paper, rolls of craft papers, etc.
 
Optional:
- Recycled materials: cereal boxes, magazines, wallpaper… the options are endless
- Any art supplies you already have

About the Instructor | Béatrice Coron

Born in France, now based in New York, Béatrice Coron's oeuvre includes illustration, book arts, fine art and public art. She cuts her characteristic silhouette designs in paper and Tyvek, and also creates works in stone, glass, metal, rubber, stained glass and digital media. Her work has been purchased by major museum collections, such as the Metropolitan Museum, The Walker Art Center and the Getty.
