Learn how to successfully print on bookcloth using wood type, cuts or polymer plates on a Vandercook press to print the cover for a hardcover journal, then learn the ins-and-outs of preparing and adhering the bookcloth to the cover, and take home a personalized hardcover journal.

Printing on bookcloth is not so different from printing on paper; this class will teach you how to print well on bookcloth, but more importantly, it will teach you how to think through registering a 3-dimensional piece and how to execute the piece in practice.  This is a great class for printers wanting to branch out into binding.   Some letterpress experience is required for this course.  No binding experience is required.

Students may bring in a polymer plate of their own design to print on the cover if they like --- it should be one-color, and no larger than  4” x 4”.

Materials to Bring: If desired, students can bring a polymer plate of their own design, one-color, no larger than
