Learn how to make detailed, high-quality photopolymer plates from digital files and film for letterpress printing. No prior darkroom experience is needed, but it’s helpful to know the basics of letterpress printing or computer typesetting. You’ll receive a handout of invaluable resource material. Both metal-backed and sticky-backed platemaking will be covered. In this workshop you have the option to make a plate from your own files, the instructor will contact you beforehand with parameters for digital files if you would like to make a plate for your own project during the class. This lab qualifies you to rent SFCB’s photopolymer platemaker.

Materials to bring: none
Materials Fee: $5. If you will be submitting your own file to make plates, there will be a $15 charge for film and an additional $20 charge for plate material. Please note: if you register less than three days before the workshop, you may not be able to make a plate from your own negative.
