Learn a historically inspired binding technique in this workshop for beginner to advanced bookbinders.
Learn a fascinating binding in which the front and back covers extend and interlock to form the spine. You will learn the fundamental principles of Italian bookbinder Carmencho Arregui's crossed structure binding and create one of her many variations. In this binding structure, the covers extend to the sewing support, which is then sewn, glued or woven through the opposite cover. You will fold, punch and sew to make a binding that allows for lively experimentation with materials and visual effects.
Materials to bring: Teflon or bone folder; scissors; metal ruler; cutting mat; scalpel or X-ACTO knife; small bookbinders awl or needle tool; medium to large triangle; pencil.
