This is a four session online workshop.

The Pop-Up Creation Manual, developed and published by Taiwanese paper engineer Hung Hsin-Fu and edited by Shen Ken-Ping in 2019, is an extraordinary collection of 72 foundational pop-up structures. Not only a set of models, this ready-for-assembly book is an opportunity to learn by doing. In this workshop, students will be mailed a kit of pieces that, when assembled, will become a copy of the book; Shawn will lead the group through the complete Manual over the course of four live Zoom sessions.

The Manual is printed in both Taiwanese and English onto a very sturdy 180 lb cover stock (486 gsm), and each structure is accompanied by how-to illustrations and geometric notation. This experience will provide a valuable window into paper engineering, especially from an Eastern perspective. Enjoy the satisfaction of building this book yourself AND the comfort of building it with fellow makers. Perfect for beginners and for those desiring a comprehensive exploration of paper engineering fundamentals.

The workshop fee includes a copy of The Pop-Up Creation Manual, currently unavailable for purchase in the United States. The Manual will be mailed to registered students via USPS.

Registration is now closed to allow enough time for the kits to be ordered and shipped.

Past Student Reviews:

"Shawn is a phenomenal instructor. Even with such technical material, he was very efficient and effective in teaching via Zoom. His mastery, passion, and teaching style were very inspirational!"

“Had fun being led through pop-up making instead of trying to figure a pop-up out through reading a book; instruction in a workshop includes warnings of accidental diversions and allows for in-the-moment questions and answers.”

“The whole setup was great. The content of the workshop was a good level too - I am a pop-up novice but felt I could manage to follow along quite easily.”

"This was a fantastic experience. Shawn is the best. He is knowledgable and so patient."

“The best best workshop I have taken on Zoom.”
