This is an in-person workshop. As of January 2023, masks are strongly encouraged but not required, unless otherwise indicated.

Once there was a Book of Rooms but then it grew and grew and became a Book of Rooms and Chambers!

Discover how to make a pop-up book that opens to reveal a series of delightful tableaux. In this deluxe version we will expand on the original five-room structure to create extra chambers between the rooms. It’s a bit like Versailles, really.

Using simple folds and cuts, students will create their own little worlds using decorative papers and upcycled materials such as maps, wall calendars, and other paper ephemera. We will explore how to use the dimensional qualities of pop-ups to express poetic, narrative, or purely visual themes. On completion of the class students will have the skills to create a multidimensional pop-up book.

>> Prerequisite: None <<

Materials to Bring: All tools and materials will be provided. Students can bring ideas for content, like a short poem or saying, riddle, or visual theme; or they can also just dive in on the day and see how the materials inspire them.

Date & Time: Sunday, February 26, 2023 :: 10am-3pm

Location: 375 Rhode Island St, San Francisco, CA 94103

NOTE: Please read over the SFCB Registration Policies before signing up for a class. Registration will close three days prior to the start date of the workshop to allow the instructor time to prep materials for class.

"Our instructor, Stephanie Jucker, was thorough in her demonstration and quite personable. She conveyed the idea of the book telling a story with colors, textures and imagery - without words! Stephanie's easy going manner and easy to follow instructions made this class a real winner!  Kudos to Stephanie!!!"
