This is a two session online workshop.

Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) are small, two-dimensional works of art about the size of a playing card. Originating as part of a conceptual art show in the late 90s, they have historical connection to mail art and miniature art. Meant to be traded but never sold, they are an opportunity for artists to share their work in a non-commercial form. With the rise in popularity of collage, ATCs are an excellent way to meet other artists, experiment and discover a variety of techniques.

Using easily obtained materials, we will start with an introduction to some basic approaches to collage, using examples and demonstrations plus tips and tricks for this format. We will focus on working in batches, on several pieces at once. With this approach, we will be able to solve compositional problems in a number of ways. There will be time to work, always with options to work quietly or socialize. Sharing will be encouraged with an option to exchange cards through the mail.

The workshop fee includes a small materials kit to be mailed to students by the instructor. International students are welcome to enroll but may not receive a kit; a list of suggested materials will be provided.
