This is a single session online workshop.

This variation on the Sewn Boards Binding is based on a model by Gary Frost in the University of Iowa Library. It provides quick, low-adhesive protection for a text that cannot wait for a more formal binding. The wrapper can unfold as a wide panorama, presenting book arts possibilities.

Before sewing, a long strip of card is hinged around the one of the card folios that start and end the book. The stub faces out. After sewing, the card strip is folded around the fore edge of the card folio it is hinged around, across the spine of the book, folded again at the fore edge of the second card folio, and rests inside that folio. A spine lining provides support.

This workshop is appropriate for intermediate binders, beginners who are ready for a fast-paced workout, and anyone who wants to add more paper bindings to their repertoire.

The class fee includes a materials kit that provides all materials needed to make one book. Due to issues with international shipping, any non-US students should email workshops@sfcb.org before registering - additional shipping fees may be required.
