This is a two-session online workshop.


With a plexiglass plate and water-based inks students will use a variety of mono-printing techniques to create imagery, texture and pattern. With the resulting selection of hand-printed papers they will assemble an accordion book to express a theme of their choice. There will be direction in how to add playful pop-ups for dimension, and a hard cover. 

Students will print in the first session and have time to create more prints as homework, then attend the second class with their dry papers to assemble into a unique book.


Materials to Bring: 

  • Plexiglass, between approx 6 x 9” - 9 x 12”; other options for plate: piece of glass (tape the edges to avoid injury), stiff cardboard covered in plastic or freezer paper
  • Drawing or sketch paper pad, approx 9”x12”, for example
  • Various lightweight papers (20lb - 65lb, i.e. copier paper weight or slightly heavier) in assorted colors and sizes
  • Two pieces of mat board or binder's board, plain or colored
  • Water-based block printing inks, black and a couple of colors; for example: Speedball
  • Palette knife
  • Soft 4" rubber roller; for example
  • Paint brushes, 2 or 3 half inch bristle pasting brushes work fine 
  • Pencil 
  • Water container
  • Paper plates for palettes 
  • Acid-free glue stick
  • Ruler
  • Scissors

Optional:

  • 4 oz Liquid acrylic matte medium; for example
  • Dried leaves or similar flat items for monoprinting

Date & Time: Saturdays, May 21 & 28, 2022 :: 2-4pm Pacific time

Location: Online over Zoom. Workshops are recorded; students will have access to videos for a month after the final class meeting.

About the Instructor | Stephanie Jucker

Stephanie Jucker is an exhibiting artist who uses mixed media and printing techniques in her paintings, books and art installations. Originally from London, where she earned her BFA, Stephanie has an MFA from Syracuse in painting, printmaking and ceramics. She is currently exhibiting at Modern Eden Gallery in San Francisco and teaches at College of Marin, San Francisco Center for the Book, and University of Pittsburgh Art Gallery.
