This is an in-person workshop. All students and the instructor must show proof of vaccination against Covid-19 and agree to wear a mask for the duration of the class unless otherwise announced by SFCB. If you choose to complete the registration process you are agreeing to these terms.

 

Working with Rik Olson - a master in the art of carving linoleum - students in this course will learn how to design an image, transfer an image to lino, use carving tools properly and safely, refine, and print a small edition of their own personalized bookplate.

No previous letterpress or carving experience is neccessary, all skill levels are welcome. 

Materials to Bring: An idea of want you want to accomplish and some sketches in a 4x5 inch format.

About the Instructor | Rik Olson

Born in Antioch, California in 1944, Rik received his B.F.A. from the California College of Arts & Crafts, Oakland, California in 1967. He has studied and exhibited work in Florence, Italy; Germany and the U.S.  Best known for his work in wood engraving, which he learned from Barry Moser and John DePol, he also works in scratchboard, pen & ink, and etching. The last 20 years he has been freelancing his Illustration work in the U.S. and abroad to corporate and publishing clients.
