This is a single-session online workshop - June 10, 4-6pm Pacific time

Create a little book that opens up to reveal a series of delightful rooms. Using some simple folds and cuts, learn how to make a versatile book structure that can lend itself to a wide range of subject matter. Students can recycle materials such as window envelopes, magazines, maps and other paper ephemera to create their own little worlds.

Beginners are welcome, but be aware that class will move briskly. Students will likely complete the project on their own time after learning techniques and methods in class.

Materials to Bring:

Various papers – A wide variety of papers are suitable for this project, from lightweight ones such as window envelopes with patterns inside and maps, to sturdier material like old calendars, magazine covers or printmaking paper. Heavier watercolor paper will be too thick, but Canson Mi-Teintes or paper around 100lbs is good.

  • 5 pieces will need to be cut to 6 x 6”, students can pre-cut these or wait to do this in class as the teacher has a few tips.
  • 2 pieces of interesting paper for front and back cover, 4 x 4”
  • Paper ephemera for collaging
  • 2 pieces of Mat Board, Book Board or cardboard 3 x 3” for covers
  • Scissors
  • Acid free glue stick
  • Pencil
  • Ruler

Optional

  • Hole punches, various shapes
  • Stamps and stamp pads
  • Decorative edge scissors
  • Metallic origami paper
  • 3.5 x 3.5” cardboard jewelry box with lid to put the finished book in

"She was very responsive. Kept the pace moving. Encouraging. I loved her attitude: try whatever, don't worry about perfection, learn the project."
