*This class is open only for students who have completed the Bookbinding Core 2: Flat Back Case Binding workshop in person. Students who register without having completed Core 2 in person will be de-enrolled.*

This is a single-session online workshop.

It’s probably been a while since you made your last (or first!) flat-back case binding and only practice makes perfect. If you’re looking to practice the structure again, hone your skills, or just refresh a few demos, this class is for you! The instructor will cover key components of this structure including what stitches can be used, gluing and lining the spine, and the steps of case construction. Class demos will be done in a cooking show-style with time for specific student questions. The full Flat Back binding structure WILL NOT be taught in this class, it is a refresher course only.

The instructor will provide a link to a class-specific webpage the week of class and will poll students on any specific questions or challenges they would like addressed (exact demos done in class may vary based on student responses). In addition to a handout, the webpage will include recommended exploration on the topic such as books and Pinterest inspiration boards. The course fee includes an extensive kit, see contents below.

It is strongly recommended that students work on a Flat Back binding or prep materials prior to class so that specific concerns can be addressed on in-progress models during class.

Materials to Bring:

  • SFCB Bookbinding Core 2 kit, included in workshop fee. Kit contains text paper, endsheet paper, boards, thread, super, spine linings, headbands, spine stiffener, decorative paper and bookcloth.

Students will also need to supply:

  • PVA or PVA mix adhesive and glue brush
  • Basic bookbinding tools: cutting mat, snap-off knife or scalpel, scissors, bone folder, ruler/straightedge, bookbinding awl, sewing needle, something to use as a weight, waste paper

Workshop Fee (includes kit): $95

Date & Time: Saturday, January 9, 2021 :: 1-3pm Pacific time

Location: Online over Zoom

Please read over the SFCB Registration Policies before signing up for a class.

REGISTRATION WILL CLOSE 2 WEEKS PRIOR TO THE START DATE OF THIS WORKSHOP TO ALLOW TIME FOR KITS TO BE SHIPPED.
