Cylinder Core Certificate Program

The handfed cylinder proof press, also known as the Vandercook press, has a special place in both print history and in teaching book arts. Immediate and accessible, yet nuanced and specific, it is the press that introduced many of us to letterpress. The four class Cylinder Core Certificate Program allows students to move quickly through the press basics while also addressing relief printing in general. Students who finish the four core classes are qualified to rent press time as well as move on to more advanced classes and techniques. Click here to learn more about the Core Certification Program and find out how you receive a discount.

Past Student Reviews:

“Core 4 forces students to work with different types of paper, rearrange and strategize on the press, lock up several times, change ink colors -- it's a really well-scoped class with just barely enough time to pull off the entire target assignment.”

“Thea was very patient despite having a full class of 8 students. Our time with Thea had just enough of everything i needed to work on, and enough novel problems because of the complexity of the project, that I learned several problem-solving techniques and even was able to help other students diagnose issues and help some other students. As for my own printing issues, it was great to get practical advice from someone who is actively printing all the time and has mastery of the art.”

“Thea truly is a Press Maven. She has so many tips and troubleshooting ideas that she is so generous with. Not only is she clear with instructions but she is very patient and makes sure to touch base with all students throughout the class.”

“Thea is a great instructor.”
