Gift tags are a quick way to embellish the wrapping of a present or send a quick message to a friend. Why not get fancy and make some letterpress gift tags for the upcoming season of gift giving?

In this workshop, work with SFCB's collection of lead and wood type, and dingbats to create a small collection of gift tags ready for use. Workshop participants will work on tabletop platen presses which are known for their ability to hand smaller size pieces of paper. Working in small teams, class participants will create lists of works and designs to be printed on the presses and everyone will leave with 20 - 30 gift tags. In this class, participants will work with factory-made gift tags as well as experiment with turning smaller papers into gift tags to broaden the range of possibilities.

While the basics of platen press operation will be discussed, this workshop does not qualify students to rent time on the presses.

Materials to Bring: Pencil and paper for note taking, list of words to print on gift tags.
