Discuss tools and materials for bookbinding and explore adhesives, paper types and uses, as well as grain for paper and book cloth. Learn a variety of structures—single-sheet book, accordion book, single-section pamphlet stitch, combined concertina, and Japanese stab—and make fun, simple books that can be turned into artists’ books.

The instructor will give a full overview of the San Francisco Center for the Book’s Bookbinding Program and how (and why) to obtain the SFCB Bookbinding Certificate.

About the Instructor | Bettina Pauly

She teaches workshops at the San Francisco Center for the Book, the Academy of Art University and O’Hanlon Center for the Arts. She loves books and boxes both as physical objects and as containers of meaning. She is interested in a variety of folded, sewn and woven structures in which she can incorporate her printing.

“I loved how many different types of books we got to make, and how the materials were all included! Bettina is a great teacher. She gave really clear explanations and was helping everybody one-on-one. I can't wait to take more classes at SFCB.”
