The Kwikprint is a fun and practical tool for binders, printers, mixed media artists and crafters. In this class, students will learn how to prepare the machine and gain an understanding of the balance of temperature, pressure and time needed for a great stamped impression using hot brass type and ornaments. Impressions can be made with metallic and color foils, or blind stamped without any pigment. Students will also learn to create a jig, which eliminates guesswork, so that substrates can be positioned perfectly for stamping.

A small variety of materials will be stamped upon:

  • Pared leather, which can later be applied to a book cover, box, or other object in need of labeling.
  • Bookcloth over board, which will serve as practice for students who want to stamp titles on their book covers.
  • Paper, specifically a set of flat cards and envelopes.

Upon completion of this course, students may use the SFCB Kwikprint stamping machines during open studio hours.

Materials to Bring: Come with ideas of words or initials that you would like to stamp onto cards and envelopes.
