Developed by book conservator and book arts educator Gary Frost, the Sewn Boards binding is an elegant solution for “lay flat” books. Evolving from historical structures which involve “stiffening” a book’s covers, the Sewn Boards binding provides myriad possibilities for both construction and structural design.

In this daylong workshop, Jennie leads students through the construction of a Sewn Boards binding; additional discussion topics include planning for book construction outside of class and preparing an edition of books using this binding method. Students leave class with one finished book structure.
