As one might imagine, designing for letterpress is different from design for web and other print processes. We’ll dive into Go beyond just optimal digital design techniques with this in-depth workshop that teaches best practices techniques that will help improve and refine your skills to achieve the letterpress look you desire.

Our popular Polymer Core 1 :: Digital Design for Letterpress introduces the concepts of designing projects for letterpress, given its unique set of print parameters. Jump into the nitty-gritty of planning and production with a review of digital design and layout programs such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, as well as an introduction to typography. The difference between digital and analog design will also be discussed. There will also be hands-on demonstrations on press allowing students to see the process from design to pulling prints. While letterpress is the focus of this workshop, the instructor will also discuss and provide examples of other printing techniques such as foil stamping and screen printing to provide a thorough understanding of the advantages and limitations of each medium. Students will leave with a set of samples to use as reference points for future projects.
