French doors binding is a wonderful way to bind two stories together into one or to tell one story in a unique and imaginative way. Students will create two separate signatures to be bound facing each other. Beginning with folding pages, everyone will then add visual and textual content utilizing stencils, collage, and drawing. The day will end with binding the signatures into a hard cover with exposed spines.
Materials to Bring: Text or poetry to work with, images for collage or drawing, favorite markmaking tools such as colored pencils or pens.
Optional and available at SFCB for student use during workshop: utility knife, bone folder, 12 inch metal ruler, glue stick, book binding awl, pencil, eraser, scissors.
