Learn a stencil technique to add atmospheric, mysterious imagery to your books and prints. Macy will introduce techniques for making beautiful images with pochoir, using hand-cut mylar stencils and a dry-brush technique. After creating a sequence of shapes and layers of colors, you'll create an accordion book of samples of your newfound pochoir techniques, complete with pockets for your stencils- a pochoir reference and keepsake in one!


Materials to Bring: Any size triangle; silhouettes, your own drawings, clip art, or interesting shapes (to use for stencils) 

Optional and available at SFCB for student use during workshop: Utility knife, bone folder, scissors, pencil, ruler, awl, glue sticks.

About the Instructor | Macy Chadwick

Macy Chadwick, MFA in Book Arts/Printmaking from University of the Arts in Philadelphia, has taught at the Academy of Art University, Colorado College, Oregon College of Art and Craft, the New York Center for Book Arts, and in her own studio. She worked as studio assistant to Julie Chen at Flying Fish Press in Berkeley for three years. Publishing as In Cahoots Press, Macy produces limited edition books & prints, and explores mixed media sculptures involving text. Her artist's books have been displayed nationally and are in collections in the U.S. and abroad. You can see Macy's work on her website.
