Have a 2-D collection that you’d like to put in a book? Interested in how to hide information inside pockets? In this class we will explore a myriad of ways to incorporate pockets into your artist books. To two different concertina bindings we will add pre-made envelopes, custom pockets, flaps, and transparent enclosures. Come with a handful of collected ephemera and leave with a housing for it!


Materials to bring: 

Required basic toolbox: x-acto knife, bone folder, scissors, pencil and eraser, any size metal ruler, any size triangle, bookbinding awl, glue stick.

 

Any small 2-D objects to put in pockets such as playing cards, postcards, photographs, ephemera, postage stamps, letters, etc.

 

Favorite mark-making tools such as colored pencils, ink, colored pens, watercolors, etc.

About the Instructor | Macy Chadwick

Macy Chadwick publishes artist's books and limited­edition prints under the imprint In Cahoots Press. She received an MFA in Book Arts and Printmaking from The University of the Arts in Philadelphia and assisted book artist Julie Chen at Flying Fish Press in Berkeley for three years. She currently teaches online book arts classes at the Academy of Art University, and workshops around the country including at San Francisco Center for the Book, and Wishi Washi Studio. Her work is in prominent collections in the U.S. and abroad, including the Victoria and Albert Museum, Yale University Special Collections, and University of Washington, Seattle.
