Have you ever admired the beauty of traditional Japanese stab bindings and wondered if you could design your own stitch pattern? This workshop is for you! We will first stitch a pattern in a traditional style, then you will learn how to create and construct your own unique design. For fun, you’ll learn a bit about the math and history behind the stitching order. Then you will learn to use a simple, animated app to help you work out how to stitch any pattern.
Please bring a Windows or Mac laptop. If you don’t have access to one, a tablet (Apple or Android) or even a smartphone will work in a pinch. If this is a barrier, please email the instructor.
Materials to Bring:
A Windows, Mac, or Linux laptop.
A tablet (iPad or Android) will work if they do not have access to a laptop, and a smartphone in a pinch.
Students can optionally bring their own:
bone folder
glue brush
awl
bookbinding needles
and (also optional):
if there is any kind of special paper they want for covers
