Learn a stencil technique to add atmospheric, mysterious imagery to your books and prints. Macy will introduce techniques for making beautiful images with pochoir, using hand-cut mylar stencils and a dry-brush technique. After creating a sequence of shapes and layers of colors, you'll create an accordion book of samples of your newfound pochoir techniques, complete with pockets for your stencils- a pochoir reference and keepsake in one!


Materials to bring: Required basic toolbox: x-acto knife, bone folder, scissors, pencil and eraser, any size metal ruler, any size triangle, bookbinding awl, glue stick. Silhouettes, your own drawings, clip art, or interesting shapes (to use for stencils) 

Optional extra tools if you have them: screw punch, circle cutter, Favorite mark-making tools such as colored pencils, ink, colored pens, watercolors, etc.

About the Instructor | Macy Chadwick

Macy Chadwick publishes artist's books and limited­edition prints under the imprint In Cahoots Press. She received an MFA in Book Arts and Printmaking from The University of the Arts in Philadelphia and assisted book artist Julie Chen at Flying Fish Press in Berkeley for three years. She currently teaches online book arts classes at the Academy of Art University, and workshops around the country including at San Francisco Center for the Book, and Wishi Washi Studio. Her work is in prominent collections in the U.S. and abroad, including the Victoria and Albert Museum, Yale University Special Collections, and University of Washington, Seattle.
