The French Linkstitch is a traditional sewing method used for binding books. Often, it's hidden by a hard spine but, instead of covering this beautiful sewing structure with a spine, in this workshop we'll let it sing true as we bind a blank journals with exposed spines. Half binding refers to or covers that have spines and corners of one material and fronts and backs of another material, is a method commonly reserved for covered spines. After sewing their books, students will learn to adapt this covering technique as they make hard covers to attach to their books. We will work with SFCB's binding and cutting equipment gaining experience with the tools of the trade. Students get to leave with one completed, blank journal ready for writing, drawing or whatever their artistic hearts desire.
