Tired of having to receipts or paper scraps to save your spot in a book? Well then, it's time to make your own legit bookmarks that will make your friends jealous. In this workshop we'll work with SFCB's collection of lead and wood type, and dingbats to create a small collection of bookmarks for each student that will be ready for use at the end of the class. Students will work on tabletop platen presses which are known for their ability to handle smaller sized pieces of paper. Students will work in teams to create a list of words or designs to be printed on the presses and will leave with 10-15 bookmarks. We will work with a variety of papers so that students will be able to explore a small range of possibilities and will have a variety of bookmarks to take home. While the basics of platen press operation will be discussed, this workshop does not qualify students to rent time on the presses.

About the Instructor | Nina Eve Zeininger

Nina Eve has been obsessed with books since receiving Harold and the Purple Crayon as a child before she knew how to read. While receiving her BFA in Photography from the San Francisco Art Institute, she took as many book and printmaking classes as possible. She now spends her time working as the Project Coordinator and teaching at SFCB, making and selling her printed and bookish wares, and learning French.
